Abstract

The Colombian Amazon, one of the most biodiverse biomes on the planet, faces a structural tension between the expansion of the agricultural frontier and the conservation of its ecosystems. This article analyzes the challenges of sustainable development in the region from the perspective of agricultural production through a narrative and interpretative review of scientific literature published between 2018 and 2025. The search was conducted in major international databases (Scopus and Web of Science) and complemented with regional sources (SciELO, Redalyc, and Dialnet), selecting 19 peer-reviewed and interdisciplinary studies. The findings are organized into three interpretative axes: (i) territorial transformations and ecological challenges associated with land-use change and deforestation; (ii) sustainable agricultural innovations—such as agroforestry and silvopastoral systems—that integrate productivity with ecological restoration; and (iii) governance and institutional strategies aimed at participatory land management. The study concludes that Amazonian sustainability requires articulating production with conservation, social equity, and territorial planning. The transition toward sustainable models depends on effective institutional presence, land-tenure security, capacity-building among local actors, and coherent, inclusive public policies. In this context, agricultural production emerges as a strategic axis for building a resilient, equitable, and environmentally sustainable territorial model for the Colombian Amazon.
