Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perceptions and consumption preferences of tourists and tourism-related businesses in the Riviera Maya, focusing on the relationship between responsible consumption and local products. A quantitative approach was used, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational-causal design. The study population consisted of individuals in the Riviera Maya, and a structured survey was employed to collect data. The results reveal that, although there is a positive perception of responsible tourism in the region, it does not significantly influence preferences for local products. However, responsible purchase intention showed a direct relationship with the preference for local products, indicating that tourists who are more aware of responsible consumption tend to prefer purchasing local goods. These findings suggest that, in order to promote changes in consumption behavior, tourism strategies should focus on strengthening responsible purchase intention. Additionally, the study highlights the need to improve perceptions regarding the quality and sustainability of local products.
