Abstract

Starting with the question, “How does organizational intervention contribute to the professionalization
of family businesses?”, this study analyzes the case of Constructor S.A. de C.V¹., a medium-sized
family business located in the city of Durango. The research was longitudinal, lasting 26 months,
and involved an organizational intervention with the following phases: initial contact, diagnosis,
proposal, family protocol, and process evaluation. As a result of this process, in collaboration
with members of the business-owning family, a family protocol was developed, containing seven
sections based on the model by Álvarez and De León (2014). The results suggest that the family
protocol addressed 40.4% of the findings identified in the company’s diagnosis, 21.3% received
partial treatment, and had no impact on the remaining 38.3%. Furthermore, the CEO’s perception
is that the family protocol contributed to changes in the family-business system; however, some
elements were not entirely successful, such as the acceptance of the succession process, the
integration of third-generation members, and adherence to the established work plan.
