The creation of walkable environments has become crucial due to their benefits for public health, the reduction of sedentary lifestyles, and the environmental impact of motorized transport. This study aimed to assess walkability in the downtown area of Chilpancingo, Guerrero, in order to improve urban mobility and residents’ quality of life. A field data collection instrument was used to gather both quantitative and qualitative information on the physical characteristics of the environment and pedestrian experiences. The results revealed deficiencies in the pedestrian design of downtown Chilpancingo, identifying areas that require attention. Despite these issues, the community shows growing awareness and active participation in urban decision-making. This research provides a detailed diagnosis of current conditions and offers practical recommendations to improve pedestrian infrastructure, promoting more equitable and sustainable urban development.
