Psychosocial Risks and Safety Culture in Aviation: An Analysis from Aeronautical Psychology

Abstract

This research examines the relationship between psychosocial risks and safety culture
in aviation from the perspective of aeronautical psychology. Through a qualitative
theoretical review of scientific literature published between 2020 and 2025,
findings on stress, fatigue, burnout, and psychological safety are integrated as key
factors influencing performance and operational safety. Results indicate that psychosocial
risks significantly affect safe behaviors, but a strong safety culture can
mitigate their impact by fostering trust, open communication, and collaborative
leadership. Aeronautical psychology emerges as a central discipline for integrating
psychosocial management into Safety Management Systems (SMS), enhancing resilience
and preventing human error. It is concluded that operational safety must
structurally incorporate psychological well-being within organizational culture as a
strategic component for aviation sustainability.
