Letter to the director of Higher Secondary Education in Mexico based on the critical exposition of the “ordinary” teacher, a remembrance of Paulo Freire's educational philosophical thought in democratic formation and the teaching of philosophy at the NMCCEMS

Abstract

This paper exposes the reality experienced by Mexican teachers and students in the first quarter of the 21st century, bringing up the diversity of contexts that are present in Mexico to point out the relevance of educating young students in the philosophical and democratic field. It also points out some daily practices that interfere with the progress of democratic formation that is intended to be achieved in the current educational reform as part of the implementation of the New Mexican School. The presence of the humanities is highlighted as a central part of this reform and the role it plays in the teaching of philosophy, in another of the objectives proposed in the NMCCEMS, which is to form people who are critical of their context for social transformation. In addition to such approaches, the philosophical thought of Paulo Freire is intertwined as part of the theoretical support present in the New Mexican School and therefore in the NMCCEMS.
