Abstract

In this research work is initially an exploration of the factors that affect the development of mathematics competition of eighth grade students of the San Calixto Educational Institution Los Salados headquarters in the municipality of Suaza Huila, factors that have not allowed obtain satisfactory results in the area of mathematics and mainly in the performances related to the solution of problems that requires the application of variational thinking in the context of the student. Given this, this study aims to strengthen the understanding of mathematical knowledge so that they are applied in everyday life through a didactic strategy based on play and algebraic games, for this eight games were developed where three main competitions were developed; numerical thinking, variational thinking and the transition from variational to algebraic thinking, where this strategy allowed students to understand the numerical system, strengthen the analytical sense and apply variational contents in their formative process and in their reality.
